Meet Our Founder – Robert Elias
Education:
Mr. Elias is a native South Floridian. He attended Miami Country Day School in Miami Shores and supplemented his secondary education by attending summer programs at both Phillips Exeter Academy (N.H.) and Choate Rosemary Hall (Conn). He obtained his undergraduate degree (BBA with an emphasis in Finance at the Edwin Cox School of Business) at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Elias then obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law.
Experience:
During law school, Mr. Elias worked in the legal department of Carnival Cruise Lines. Upon graduation, Mr. Elias initially practiced law in the Miami office of Kimbrell & Hamann, P.A., where his primary areas of concentration included real estate workouts, transactions, and litigation. A significant portion of Mr. Elias’ time was devoted to the representation of the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in their various capacities as receivers for federally-insured financial institutions.
Mr. Elias also practiced with the Miami office of Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza & Guedes, P.A. where he concentrated on land use/zoning, commercial leasing, commercial real estate transactions and governmental work as a member of the Real Estate Department. Mr. Elias has practiced law in Miami Lakes since 2001. He is the Managing Principal of The Elias Law Firm, PLLC which is a transactional boutique law firm specializing in real estate, bank/lender representation, corporate law, estate planning/probate and asset protection. Mr. Elias has closed real estate and other transactions well in excess of $2 Billion on behalf of clients during that time.
Mr. Elias is a member in good standing with the Florida Bar. Mr. Elias was awarded an AV Preeminent Lawyer Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer rating for professional excellence. Mr. Elias was also named to the exclusive list of South Florida’s Top-Rated Lawyers by American Lawyer Media.
Banking:
Mr. Elias was a founding member of the Board of Directors of Apollo Bank until its sale to Seacoast Bank (NASDAQ: SBCF) in 2023. During that time, the bank grew from approximately $150 Million in assets to over $1 Billion. Mr. Elias served on the Compliance Committee and also Chaired the Compensation Committee of the Bank. Mr. Elias concurrently served as a founding director of the bank holding company, Apollo Bancshares, Inc from and after its formation in 2008. Additionally, he served as outside counsel to the bank in a variety of matters including commercial/residential real estate loans, C&I (commercial and industrial) loans, loan participations and various other general matters at the bank.
Leadership/Community:
Outside of law and banking, is extremely active in the community and children’s charities in particular. Mr. Elias was honored by the Ronald McDonald House Charities as one of their “12 Good Men” for community involvement, civic service, and commitment in and to South Florida. He currently co-chairs their annual 12 Good Men luncheon and serves on the Finance Committee. Mr. Elias is past President of the Miami Lakes Bar Association. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida, Inc., among the largest chapters in the nation’s premier wish-granting organization and remains an active member of the Advisory Board of Directors of the Foundation. Mr. Elias is a former founding member of the Jr. Board of Directors of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. He is a past appointee by a Chairperson of the Miami-Dade County School Board to the Blue-Ribbon Task Force on Ethics. The Mayor of the Town of Miami Lakes appointed Mr. Elias to the Town of Miami Lakes Economic Development Committee.
